Surprized if the Compac name vanishes, yes.
The surviving name and its reputation is very important There will always be a Ford, Sears, and IBM. Cpq's reputation was fading
There will be much talk pro and con
It a life-saver for Cpq -institutional holders will probably swing approval of the deal..
With plunging sales and stock price it was much easier for CPQ to be bought rather than Dell. Michaels holdings plus that of friends would be a big obstacle to buying Dell even at a large premium
Myself and the rest of the world are beaten down trying to make sence of whether Dell or HWP will profit
more from the merger HWP and Cpq will say its done to become more efficient. Well, who forced them to change to become more efficient except Dell and their low pricing? An indication the Dell model is working
and others forced to change. Now go figure what the Dell model leads to in the future for the stock price
