02:06 ET Hewlett-Packard (HWP) 23.21: Traders wake up to a stunner, as HWP has agreed to acquire Compaq (CPQ 12.35) in a stock-swap deal valued at $25 bln, reports the Wall Street Journal... CPQ shareholders to receive 0.6325 HWP shares for each CPQ share, representing about a 19% premium to Friday's close - certainly not the stuff that dreams are made of... Deal would merge the number two and three PC makers, creating a more formidable challenger to number one -- Dell (DELL)... Also likely to result in lower prices in storage and services markets, potentially troubling news for Sun (SUNW) and/or IBM (IBM)... Carly Fiorina will be CEO of the combined company, according to the companies' statement, while CPQ's CEO, Michael D. Capellas, will serve as president... While news of deal could be just the spark needed to ignite at least a short-term rally in techs, there will be some perceived losers... Among them Lexmark (LXK 52.17) and Solectron (SLR 13.60).
