Samsung to supply 50,000-line CDMA systems to Australian firm

Samsung Electronics Co. said yesterday it has struck a deal with Huchison Telecom Australia to supply the firm with code division multiple access (CDMA) systems capable of connecting 50,000 mobile phone lines.

The deal, which followed a hike in the number of Huchison's subscribers, boosts Samsung's supply of its CDMA systems to 200,000 lines from the 150,000 lines worth $220 million in 1998.

Samsung plans to ship the systems to Sydney and Melbourne by the end of the year.

It also plans to grab a 40 percent share in the Australian CDMA market and expand its CDMA system supply to the Australian firm to 400,000 lines by next year.
