This is going to be a big surprise to the several GaAs companies in business in the 1970s...I used to work next to the Avantek building in Santa Clara. Ditto for the GaAs producers like Gigabit Logic, Tektronix, H-P, etc.

As for "everyone thought Fabricators would use it to replace silicon," what kind of crack are you smoking?
