Hi Ward,

Nice to hear from ya!

Re: Organic salmon - I think it's a lovely marketing term. Hope they can convince the authorities of the merit of it. One thing is certain - the farmed fish get dosed regularly with antibiotics and clearly can't qualify for the organic designation.

Thanks for the data on salmon prices. In the markets locally, we're being offered pink salmon for about a buck a pound.

The marketing maven have been having a great success down here with a branded red or chinook salmon, "Copper River Salmon", which sells for about $15-18 per pound at the chi-chi markets hereabouts. I had a good laugh about this with a friend of mine who spent about 20 years in Anchorage. We marvel at the naivete of the buying public to think that the Copper River fish is any different from that from King Salmon, the Tat-Alsek, the Stikine or any other river north of Vancouver.

Re: Yet we are assured that the 48”er will continue to flow safely to Valdez.

That's akin to the real estate agent saying "trust me". "Safely" has a multi-variant definition. My guess is that we'll never see anything quite like the Hazelwood holocaust again. But spills will be a regular feature on the pipeline, going forward. The Alyeska consortium will spend on "pigs" and "spin-meisters" in equal proportion, IMVHO.

-Ray :)
