Hi J,
Very interesting news and there are numerous implications for semi companies, optics and telecoms. The first question that I have is how have the yields been on this new wafer creation process and how easily can existing wafer processing equipment be adjusted to take advantage of this new wafer? If PAs are the easiest product to create using these wafers, it would appear to have a significant implication for companies like RFMD, ANAD, TQNT, et al. As more exotic wafers are produced, the implications in other niches could be dramatic.

How quickly can this technology move from the research dept. to the production floor? This question will have wide reaching implications for the communications semi industry. If the cost of lighting dark fiber drops, then the companies who manage optical traffic could see a boast down the road.

I only read the press release, so I'll need to look into this situation in more detail. At first glance it looks very promising for the telecom industry.
