Last I looked, "smart" was a synonym for "intelligent".

Please re-read your original post below. The relevant parts are bold faced. I think you contradicted your self due to the length of your post. I have heard of Alzheimers but in the same post <ggggggggggg>

I am getting a weird feeling like we're kind of ganging up on John Shannon.
Funny, I am getting a weird feeling like John Shannon is doing a number on us.

>> He seems quite intelligent and sincere...

That doesn't make sense to me. If John were both intelligent and sincere about wanting to participate this forum, he could easily make his points while maintaining the standard for polite discourse. Since he hasn't, I have to presume he is either not too bright or not too sincere.

>> I for one am very interested in the specific rationale which led him to identify the impending bear market with enough confidence to act accordingly.

I guess you missed John's admission that he has never invested in tech to a significant degree. Like many other value investors, he missed the bear, but he also missed the preceding bull.

>> I respectfully request that we give JS a chance to demonstrate his ability to contribute to this group in a collegial manner.

We been doing that for quite a while, and I've seen no improvement. Have you noticed that virtually nothing John has said is specific to the Gorilla Game or the vetting of G&K candidates? Since his focus is on macro-economics and general market/valuation issues, I think the MDD thread would be a more appropriate forum for him. Those of us who are interested in his insights could easily read him there. But imo, his continued presence here will be increasingly disruptive. And since I also believe that he is a smart fellow, perhaps that's been his agenda all along.

BTW I dont believ smart is the same as intelligent. Typically intelligent would indicate a lot of grey matter. I am not eable to express the differnec wuite clearly but Smartness indicates somewhat of cunningness. I have seen PhD's (intelligent) who can solve any physics problem but cant tie their shoe laces and I have seen people (smart) who cant add 2 and 2 yet are able sell ice to the eskimos.
