Why don't you link to this "older" software that you are referring to. It wouldn't happen to be anything other than SuperPI, would it? At the very worst, I'd say the 1.8GHz Pentium 4 would be matchable with that 1.2GHz Tualatin PIII that was semi-released a month or so ago, but I dare you to find a benchmark where the 1.8GHz P4 can be beaten by anything less than that.
