Lamda Physik Has Second Significant Push Out
By Jeff Chappell, Electronic News

Sep 04, 2001 --- German laser maker Lambda Physik AG reported a
postponement Monday of a lithography-related order that prompted it to
reduce its fiscal 2001 sales forecast down from an expected $127 million.

The Göttingen, Germany-based company, which serves lithography tool
OEMs, said that because of over-capacity on the part of the customer,
deliveries planned for the fourth quarter have been postponed until fiscal
2002.

With this latest push out, Lamda Physik said it was forced to revise its
sales estimates downward.

"At the present time we cannot rule out the possibility that other orders
may be postponed before the end of the quarter due to the ongoing
weakness of the lithography market and have therefore had to reduce the
sales forecast for this fiscal year," said Dirk Basting, president and chief
executive officer. "However, we continue to expect sales to increase
substantially by 30 percent to 35 percent, thereby exceeding the sales
growth forecast communicated at the initial public offering."

The company said last month it expected sales growth of 40 percent and
above-average improvement of earnings in 2001. It went public on
Germany's exchange just last September.

At the beginning of August Lambda Physik AG had a lithography
customer postpone an order because of technological problems in
introducing the 193nm generation tools at the customer’s facilities. The
company said the push out would affect sales for fiscal 2002. The
remaining delivery is now scheduled for 2003, and as a result Lambda
Physik reduced its orders on hand from approximately $82 million to
about $67.5 million.

The company said last month it has written confirmations from customers
for the deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2001.
