Hi Neocon; I agree. Even the most mild of governments will enforce its least important laws (at least those of its laws that it insists be obeyed) with deadly force.

If you get a speeding ticket and don't pay it, a lot of states will invalidate your drivers license. If you keep driving, they will eventually arrest you. If you resist arrest, they may very well kill you. They will certainly bring out the "men with guns" if you insist on carrying a weapon to protect your self asserted right to drive.

We are creatures red in tooth and claw, and so are our governments. It's okay with me. It's one of the little features of this planet that seems to be unavoidable. I don't think it's a reason to morally reject government.

I have merely been defending the general right to collect taxes. Things like making evasion a criminal offense, requiring compliance with audits, and the like might be specific examples of laws pursuant to that end........

Evasion of what? Compliance with what kind of audit, there are several kinds. No reasonable person should be forced to accept vague definitions when the bargaining power is so unequal.

Evasion is a term, compliance is a tool. You have not stated one enforcable obligation that the government is duly constituted to enforce.

I have merely been defending the general right to collect taxes.

That is a straw man argument. No one denies that. Here are the arguments:

That the Federal Government (this is a national forum after all) is trying to fill too many functions that are way beyond the scope of what it was intended to do, or has proven incapable of doing, or that actually do measurable harm.

That as a result, the amount of taxes they collect to support these illegitimate enterprises is grossly too high.

That the tax code is a horrible disgrace to a country this great.

That as proof of all this, if not for the fact that a gun is pointed at our heads, the great majority of tax payers would not pay up.
