Interesting spin from Yahoo thread. Agree that the
term equipment could indicate desire for Vod to use CDMA200
in Europe? Seems like a reach but...

The world's biggest wireless operator has asked its suppliers to come up with network equipment and handsets that will work with both the standard favoured by its U.S. joint venture Verizon Wireless and the one it is using in the rest of the world, an industry source told Reuters on Wednesday.

-----------------------------------------

Note that they want network EQUIPMENT that will work with both standards. The reason perhaps is that they want to be able to deploy CDMA2000 if WCDMA is still delayed. Otherwise, they would only need the dual-mode capability in handsets. They wouldn't need it in the network equipment. IMO this is the first sign that VOD is considering switching to CDMA2000 or at least preparing in case CDMA2000 gains the upper hand.
