Leader in Worldwide Conservation Effort Selects Starbase For Web Site Control

Starbase's eXpressroom Takes Web Site Management To New Levels For Conservation International Through Support of Multiple Languages and Versions

SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2001-- Starbase Corp. (Nasdaq:SBAS - news), the leading provider of end-to-end collaborative products for both the development and management of content and code for enterprise and e-business applications, today announced that Conservation International, a leader in the conservation of biodiversity worldwide, has implemented eXpressroom to manage content and code for their growing family of specialized Web sites.

``With eXpressroom, we have much better control over our Web content which includes text, photos and video,'' stated Joshua Phipps, technology architect for Conservation International (CI). ``We have been able to implement versioning as well as systematize our processes. As a result, we are enjoying increased flexibility and efficiency in maintaining our Web sites.''

The separate storage of content and presentation provides CI with the required design flexibility resulting in an easy delivery of Web content to a wide range of formats. With eXpressroom, the team at CI is able to collaborate and participate in the creation and management of their growing family of Web sites. eXpressroom stores all of CI 's content and site objects using pure XML.

Phipps continued: ``At Conservation International, we seek to promote the conservation of Earth's natural heritage and protect our global biodiversity. We have staff working throughout the world that can generate content for our Web site. Soon, these contributors will be able to easily update the sites by submitting their content to eXpressroom via a Web interface.

``By getting stories from the field online more quickly, we will keep the sites' content fresh and give visitors a better understanding of CI's work and a way to support it. We also plan to deploy these sites in multiple languages and versions. We were unable to even consider these advances before eXpressroom.''

``Starbase's vision of collaboration for code and content development teams is clearly demonstrated by the Conservation International implementation,'' stated Lydia Patterson, vice president of marketing for Starbase. ``As Web sites become more complex and support a growing number of geographically dispersed contributors, content management becomes an integral part of the application lifecycle strategy. For sites with unique scalability challenges, eXpressroom, an integral component of the Starbase Collaboration Suite, is the best choice solution.''

In planning the redesign of their corporate Web site as well as extending their Web presence to a broader audience, CI searched for a solution to help simplify the process of managing and posting content, while allowing for increased flexibility in the software design. The Web team had previously experienced the frustrations and limitations of a static HTML site and found eXpressroom, with the power to manage simultaneously both code and content using pure XML, ideally suited to meet their Web development requirements.

CI launched the first two of 12 environmentally focused Web sites that will be managed using eXpressroom. The corporate site, www.conservation.org, covers global strategies, programs and organizational information produced and maintained by an international team of content contributors.

The recently launched Center for Applied Biodiversity Science site, www.biodiversityscience.org, represents a division of CI that works to strengthen the organization's ability to identify and respond to threats to Earth's biological diversity. The management of future sites will be controlled by eXpressroom's process, content and workflow capability.
