CHAMBERS' COMMENTS:

There is very little "market wisdom" these days that is not profoundly self-serving.

So a way to interpret his comments could be:

"don't buy the products or shares of the smaller communications equipment companies. They might go out of business. Buy us instead. We are big enough to survive"

CSCO is in a good position to benefit from people accepting that argument. And, no doubt it will prove to be true (to some extent).
