Are you saying Bill is a hypocrite?

Reinhold Neibuhr -- a Christian, but one who spoke also to and for others, who put the meaning and the search into this context. He said, "Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore, we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true, or beautiful, or good, makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore, we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, could be accomplished alone; therefore, we must be saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our own standpoint; therefore, we must be saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness."

Such belief, for many of us, demonstrates reasoning that goes beyond our own end, as well as creative reasoning about the end. Such faith can help citizens find meaning for the millennium, even if we cannot claim we have found the determinative and decisive meaning of the millennium.

Thank you. (Applause.)

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. I would like to take about the last four sentences of Professor Marty's talk and emblazon it in the consciousness of every human being on the face of the Earth.

Of course, if I were President I'd go to church all the time with a pious expression and sing every hymn as correctly as possible. gg You know what I'm saying. There's a lot of hypocrisy out there in politics and the Bush Faith stuff is just so much BS. A way to cut government safety net programs then blame is on private givers if the 1000 Points Of Light fails, which it will.
My Mother is a big church organizer and she says they wouldn't even know what to do at her huge church if they had any more poor people to take care of. Already overbooked at every food hand-out. She also says no one at her church (the largest in Houston) is qualified to run any such large social programs. In short, they don't even want the federal money. She is also aware it's a political ploy and not an honest program.
