Your last four words hit the nail on the head -- "for the greater good." It's a balancing issue between community rights and individual rights. (I know, some would say there's not such thing as community rights,but I disagree, and don't want to get into that argument here which would move us away from the points at issue.) There are even echos here of my discussion with SR on hate crimes, or as I term them thought crimes. Along with the issue of preventative detention Karen suggested she was in favor of. I would love to continue this now, but work does call, I fear. But I'll hope to continue it later -- it's a fascinating and very important set of issues.
