TECH IS DEAD:::::::"We're clearly not seeing any recovery in 2001, and I think we're talking a recovery in the second half of 2002," HP CEO Carly Fiorina said Wednesday, according to Reuters. "And I think the recovery will be limited."

Another prominent CEO, John Chambers of Cisco Systems (CSCO: down $0.89 to $14.88, Research, Estimates), said the HP-Compaq deal might be the start of more consolidation in a business where more and more firms struggle to survive.

"Within the Nasdaq as an example, I do believe that out of the top 100 companies ... half of them will not be around five years from now," Reuters quoted Chambers as saying.
