Hi Rock
I was just thinking you and Fred would get along. Do you like the Flintstones? Perhaps you were once part of a chain gang? Interesting name, at any rate.

Now to your question. The reason God could not completely reveal himself to Moses was because Moses would have died instantly. Just like if you get too close to the sun, or if you are in the vicinity of a nuclear explosion. The Hebrew expressions that we have translated as face and back of God are metaphors for the Glory of God. You can look at a star in the sky, But not the sun. Moses wanted to see more of God than he already had. God accommodated him but had to shield Moses from the full expression of his presence. That's why He hid him in the rocks. Not exactly the kind of God you want to mock and make jokes about, is He?

rockerbanger.....

It is my belief that God must have a sense of humor so if in fact that really happened I would not be one bit surprised.

Now as to whether it really happened or not is the bigger question. I always try to remember that these books were written and interpreted by a man or men...and who knows it could have been one or more of those early numerologists doing the interpreting.
