Spec used to be ok too, until a certain company decided to build a compiler operation around it.

Win, you missed the point. Which benchmarks do YOU pay particular attention to? In other words, what reason do YOU have for buying a high-performance computer? Bragging or complaining about benchmarks is useless if the benchmarks don't reflect the kind of work you or most other people do.
