The economy is contracting, and will be static for a while in the best case scenario.

However, the problem with the market is that it's still priced for a perfect scenario (DOW) or a near term V typed rebound (lead tech issues like TXN, AMAT, CSCO, etc). And that's why you are observing the market experience a Chinese water torture. The pain will end someday, but the end results probably not meet most people's expectations.
