Likely, they will only use it for their highest end solutions, and continue with their current CPU lines for their other models. At least at first, until they can cost reduce it. If you think it will have volumes to compete with Itanium, then you are probably overestimating. Given the tone of your voice, I'm willing to believe your response was a vain attempt to troll around the Intel forum, rather than to give sound financial advice.

It will be used from 1 way to 32 way SMP. So, you are wrong there. You said it would have lower volume than Power3. Since it replaces R6000 and AS400 designs, you are wrong there AGAIN. There was no mention of Itanium in my post. You know nothing of what it costs IBM to produce POWER4. Do you believe it costs IBM as much to produce a POWER4 chip as Intel charges for Itanium? 1/2 as much? 1/4 as much?
1/8 as much? 1/16? 1/32? Also, you claimed Power3 was humongous. Again, since you claim to know....how humongous is it? Given the tone of your response, you are simply running your mouth with nothing to back it up.
