I don't know, this could be an isolated opinion. There are advantages to European travelers and business to the Euro. Once they get all the calculations done it might be popular, but I have to assume the ECB will fight like crazy to keep it's value so it won't be still born.

Likely a lot of volatility around the launch I'd guess.
Perhaps a dream come true for a Soros like hedge fund.

Wish we had some European contacts who could enlighten us on the sentiment there.

Europeans dont have much of a choise .By law they have to accept the euro.
The biggest hurdle is unfamiliarity with converting it .
But england and france both survived major changes to their currencies 30 years ago
If the dollar weakens it will certainly make the euro look a whole lot better.
