From Ben Garrett

European third-generation (3G) networks at 64kbs....
----------

<g>

Ooops!

64kbs isn't 3G.

"..The launch speed of 64 kb/s might be even slower in practice if lots of users cram the network.."

<ggg>

Gives you and indication what Gent expects from GPRS...

What a chuckle.

Of course, dropping speed will not in any way negate endemic, chronic asynchronous handoff and associated
power consumption problems presently besting NTT... And count the base stations NTT presently has in Tokyo
(still with failing service) and begin to get a feel for the quantity that would be required throughout Japan - or for
Gent's networks... Gent's projections for any commercial UMTS service (outside a city test like NTT's) in
Europe in 2002 is, at best, a pipe dream.

Appears to be no need for Gent to worry about cdma2000/UMTS compliant networks and handsets.... Unless he
alters course, Q's cdma2000/GSM chipsetsets will fit the bill in perpetuity.

garbage.

Carranza, luckily you do not have to think about
what speeds GPRS will offer, not even a chance
to use a communicator and HSCSD for another half year.

Ilmarinen

Btw, the guy who delivers cookies locally just
ordered his communicator, speeds up orders,
delivieries, billing and minimizes crumbled cookies,
excel spreadsheets and infra red to the desktop,
email to the bakery is great.

Same thing for the guy who sweeps the chimneys,
although his problem is to ensure the cellar door
is open when he arrives, as well to do the
regular "traveling businessman" viterbi problem.

Both have used SMS messages for some years.

Do not yet know about the guy who does the service
on the oilheaters, but he too does business using
SMS messages. (his wife is a little slow to bill, so
I guess a communicator will help)
