O'Neill repeats sees U.S. growth pick up in 2002
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept 6 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill said on Thursday that he expects 2.5 to 3.0 percent real U.S. economic growth next year.

O'Neill, speaking after meeting representatives of high-technology industries, was repeating a forecast that he made in Washington on Wednesday and said it did not represent any scaling back of the 3.2 percent estimate made by the White House Office of Management and Budget in August.

O'Neill said he had raised with the Silicon Valley executives the Bush administration's wish to have a renewed Trade Promotion Authority to help Bush negotiate global free trade pacts.

``One of the things that I wanted to do this morning is urge on all of them their talking to their representatives and senators about the importance of getting Trade Promotion Authority so that we can continue to open and expand markets around the world,'' O'Neill said.
