Dow 9841.25 -192.02 (-1.91%) Nasdaq 1711.49 -47.52 (-2.70%) S&P 500 1109.65 -22.09 (-1.95%) 10-Yr Bond 4.856% -0.111 NYSE Volume 1,211,135,000 Nasdaq Volume 1,673,080,000 COMPX still on negated buy signal, indications of a little more downside. SOX trying to bottom, but no buy signal yet. The COMPX does not look good as it has broken to a new intra-day low as I type. Volume appears to be heavy on liquid tech stocks as traders exit positions. Small and mid-caps see damage also but on average volumes. No where to hide except energy stocks and contract manufactures. Energy stocks are up to flat on news that oil reserves were less than expected for August. Not sure what is driving contract manufacturers given weak consumer environment. ************************** Market Outlook Ask Again Later By:Adam Martin Stocks continue to fall off at this hour as Wall Street awaits word from Intel after the close, and digests news about the economy and a tech bellwether. On the release of the NAPM numbers, stocks plummeted further today as fears deepen that the wait for recovery may be longer than expected, and the bottom may be deeper than previously thought. Stocks made a partial recovery on news that the DOJ will not seek to break up Microsoft, but most of that recovery has already been given back. Intel is scheduled to release its earnings guidance, and traders are expected to take inspiration from what company execs have to say about the future. Also of importance today are same store sales numbers that showed some weakness in the retail sector. QCOM closed near low at double avg vol, among other losing stocks for the day. May as well test the lows.. which is an inverse proportional way of saying testing for buyers.

September 6 closing numbers: Dow 9840.84 -192.43 (-1.92%) Nasdaq 1705.64 -53.37 (-3.03%) S&P 500 1106.40 -25.34 (-2.24%) 10-Yr Bond 4.856% -0.111 NYSE Volume 1,322,273,000 Nasdaq Volume 1,888,557,000 TOTAL EQUITY CALL VOLUME : 598,331 TOTAL EQUITY PUT VOLUME : 489,344 TOTAL VOLUME : 1,087,675 EPC=0.82 Second day of extremely oversold. Near record volume on the COMPX. A lot of once high flying stocks now trading below cash value. I am not sure how long that can go on. Even with the current sell off the number of stocks 1 standard deviation below its 200 SMA is still not at the extreme of April. It inidcates there could be some more down side to come. SOX and COMP both signalling a continuation of the down trend. They are both oversold, but the lack of follow through on the rallies has negated the initial buy signal. The fact that the signal is all over the place indicates a lack of conviction by traders. Sector data. Given the amount of carnage, all these will have to be re-constructed. Many stocks are on the verge of disappearing from mutual fund holdings due to valuations. Highlight positive or flat sectors only.
