Paying down the debt is the equivalent of retiring dollars in the teeth of a deflation-thus exacerbating it. Spending does move it back into the economy, but inefficiently (if government needs to spend in an area, it means the free market has ALREADY rejected the option) and increases the influence of government-leading to tyranny. Giving it back to the people who own it is the only viable option-and it must be done in a way that encourages private capital formation.
