I sure hope you guys are right about this VIX thing. The rally that it seems to have predicted in the spring almost makes me believe in it. I really prefer buy and hold, but with the bubble still here some kind of short side position seems the only thing. With what the Fed is doing to the money supply, I am not even happy with cash, at least not cash denominated in $US.

Anyway, puts and shorts are by nature short term--or rather about two years maximum using LEAPS. And you HAVE to get out if you are going to make any money, whereas something like GE bought at the right time can be held for twenty years.

So these tea leaves make me very uneasy, and I sure hope yours are the right tea leaves. I'll watch for a VIX above 40 and a reversal and maybe temporarily dump my Dow puts.

I haven't ever followed the VIX before. Where do you get the figure for it quoted? I explored the CBOE site but couldn't seem to find it.
