RE: This is why we have so many religuious groups, each of which polishes it's text and presnts it as the one tru test with a path waaaay back, etc etc.

I am not sure whose books you are reading, but perhaps, you might want to check the author's credentials. It is easy to say whatever you want. More difficult, to back it up with referenced study.

Most "Christian" groups use one of a handfull of translations (KJ, NIV, etc.). There are many Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, scholars who have validated the quality of these translations to the original manuscripts. The secular ones, of course, only certify the accuracy of the translation, but obviously do not support the claims of the originals.

The various "Christian Groups" of which you speak, do not have their own versions of the Bible. They just interpret the standard differently. Fortunately, there is a standard by which the beliefs of an Christian group can be judged. Thus, David Koresh, Jim Jones, and the hucksters on TV all are repudiated by the very Bibles which they use(d) for their own gain.

The exception to all is the Watchtower society (the Jehovah Witnesses) which could not align their cult beliefs with and of the modern translations, so they did their own. And there are plenty of secular scholars who have discredited this flawed translation. They are not a Christian organization. They are a cult.
