Yes, the QQQ is backed by actual shares. It's a sign of the times that we have so many popular derivative "stocks", as well as affordable futures. One can not help but be amazed (worried?) that the QQQ's trade the equivalent of 10% of the nation's GDP in a single day.

The stock market used to reflect the business of America, now it *is* the business.
