bd - I wish I didn't see things like this but I am huanted by a phrase I once caught somehwere around here which said that the one thing to worry about is whether we are in a correctionor we are in one of once in a lifetime events. I heard that just over a year ago. After this evening I believe we are in fact not only in "one of those" lifetime events but that we in the the Mother of all lifetime events. It became clear this evening that we are in the middle of a major global collapse and while we have been worrying about Japan and perhaps some oteh minor Asian economies what we have not figured is the unk unk and my guessis that we are going to get hit with an unk unk any day and that is what the market is telling us. An unk unk could include:- A minor bank going bust but bringing baggage with it. A default on sovreign debt somewhere Saddam deciding to stir things up a little A really unpleasant terroroist incident A big hedge fund getting into trouble A big fund having a problem with redemptions A couple of really nasty earnings warnings A big legal wrangle with the WTO that dealys something and cuases friction between any of teh three major groups A combination of any of the above. I agree eventually things will get better. Eventually can be a very long time. Meantime these is cetainly historic times and you know the famous Chinese curse... Best, L
