Everything I have read on the subject of fiber optics has told me the exact same thing you did... It's the last mile holding back fiber's potential. The backbone is essentially laid and it is true there exists "oodles" of excess capacity. As the last mile gets built that excess capacity will vanish into thin air.

Isn't it great that the media and analysts are concentrating mostly on the backbone and ignoring the issue of the last mile? Has caused all optic companies to be treated with disdain, and created tremendous buying opportunities recently. Really like ONIS and have accumulated a substantial position. The volatility of the stock has also made it an excellent trading vehicle.

Neat article in the WSJ about the boom times in the oilpatch, guys who pass up college and pay off their mama's mortgage with roughneck earnings. What a difference two years makes.

Look out now, Quicksilver Inc (ZQK), a slacker apparel company is being covered now on CNBC--maybe a little knock on effect on Quicksilver (KWK) the energy company??
