If I ever lived out in the country and had some land, I'd love to carve out enough dirt to make a pond and watch it collect rainwater and become colonized by life. And then I'd enjoy watching natural succession take place as it slowly filled in each year until it was nothing more than an innocuous wetland, and then begin again.

Are there any policemen left on SI, or is this now an unmoderated bulletin board?

We once had to pull the backhoe out with a friends logging truck. :)
the big money over here these days is digging detention ponds for developments.
