The Fed bond buying idea was floated in case we run out of Treasuries due to immense future budget surpluses. If by a miracle this does happen, Fed corporate bond buying is not going to start until well after 2004, it will require congressional approval, and it will probably specify that the Fed buy a basket of bonds containing a weighted percentage of every corporate bond traded.
