Under Taliban law, the penalty for a foreigner who is caught proselytizing is jail and expulsion. For an Afghan, the penalty is death. In the past, in similar situations they have just expelled the foreigner. Likely to happen again.

Diplomats from all of the countries are involved in it. Starting protests, and a public pressure would only aggravate the situation.

I think that the law there is absurd, but it is the law and if one wants to go to exotic places like Afghanistan, one must be prepared to deal with the culture and the law. And make damn sure you follow it.
