The president, by default, sets the economic tone by virtue of his overall leadership (or lack thereof) and his legislative agenda. Greenspan is another story ... especially his "hands-off" policy the last half of '00. Another overlooked factor in this economic downturn is the immorality of Big Business, but that's also a subject matter for another day.

Nearly everything GWB wants to accomplish during his 4-year term hinges on a strong economy.

GWB is in trouble, and he knows it. Anyone who fails to acknowledge such is living in Fantasyland.

A big call-to-action will come shortly from Republican members of Congress. They know that if they stand before voters in '02 with the Dow at 6,500, they're in big, big trouble, regardless of where you want to assign the blame.
