"Farfenugen" to me is inextricably bound to the VW commercial popularizing it. It's kind of like what Mel Brooks did to the original Frankenstein. But as you define it, we, the reality surfers, are those entities which can select between alternative realities to a greater degree than those things that can't (the "inanimate" or non-conscious). My definition (and it would seem, yours) allows for consciousness without brains as we know them (including mechanical, electronic, or distributed ones - probably ones we wouldn't even think of as "conscious"). It probably requires a system of adequate complexity to house such a vehicle (see the conversation I've had with TP). Heck, the ocean is probably of sufficient complexity, IMO, to think. Does it? Who knows!
