Prudential (positive news) 15:00 ET Dow: -183, Nasdaq: +1, S&P -12.80: [BRIEFING.COM] Going into the final hour of trading, the markets are getting a push with the Nasdaq testing positive ground. Buy interest in large cap technology issues continues to be evident with the NDX now posting a 0.8% intraday gain. Contributing to the late push are comments from Prudential which has come out positive on the semiconductor equipment sector. The firm says August sales data released this morning from Taiwan-based wafer foundries point clearly positive. The firm views the data as consistent with positive commentary from several semiconductor companies and while it acknowledges a recessionary overhang remains, it also believes the recent sell-off shifts the risk/reward dynamics in favor of investors. As such, Prudential is out saying investors with a 12-month time horizon should be buyers of the space... The markets are also getting a lift from comments regarding Dell Computer (DELL +2.5%). Earlier this afternoon, Morgan Stanley held a conference call with CEO Michael Dell. We've heard from sources at the firm that Mr. Dell said things are on track for the current quarter, and the company is gaining market share as the industry consolidates. DJTA -3.2%... DJUA +0.6%...
