Jelaluddin Rumi and Talibaan...now there's a thought ! Rumi's poetry...albeit extremely sensuous and passionate, at least is all devotional....but Omar Khayyam....wow ! he and Mirza Ghalib were famous for their very realistic poetry about life, love, lust, women and spirits....esp Ghalib, who had an extremely difficult and melancholy existance, was very cynical about the existance of a just and kind God...

These three have been classified as the greatest poets of Central Asia. Taalibaan certainly doesn't deserve such distinguished people in their regime...

Why should I seek ? I am the same as
he. His essence speaks thru me.
I have been looking for myself !

Ah Rumi, Rumi, give me more Rumi....for today....

Which is worth more, a crowd of thousands,
or your own genuine solitude ?
Freedom, or power over an entire nation ?

A little while alone in your room
will prove more valuable than anything else
that could ever be given you.

AND

I am so small I can barely be seen.
How can this great love be inside of me?

Out beyond the fields of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase 'each other'
doesn't make any sense.

I'l meet you there

Don't go anywhere without me.
Let nothing happen in the sky apart from me,
or on the ground, in this world or that world,
without me being in its happening.

Vision, see nothing that I don't see.

Language, say nothing.

The way the night knows itself with the moon,
be that with me. Be the rose
nearest to the thorn that I am.

I don't need
a companion who is
nasty sad and sour
the one who is
like a grave
dark depressing and bitter

a sweetheart is a mirror
a friend a delicious cake
it isn't worth spending
an hour with anyone else

a companion who is
in love only with the self
has five distinct characters

stone hearted
unsure of every step
lazy and disinterested
keeping a poisonous face

the more this companion waits around
the more bitter everything will get
just like a vinegar
getting more sour with time

enough is said about
sour and bitter faces
a heart filled with desire for
sweetness and tender souls
must not waste itself with unsavory matters

Come to the orchard in the spring
There is light and wine, and sweethearts
........among pomegranate trees.

If you do not come, these do not matter.
If you do come, these do not matter"

take me to that place
where nobody knows me
but you
tell me all those things
that nobody can hear
but me

just love me forever
I know they all do
but you.

- Who else but Rumi.....?
