They were buying a little of all types...exotic beers, beer in 12-packs. It's in an expensive zip code....so no jug wines just yet, but lots of corks. (ahem). Just seemed incredibly crowded for mid-day. Never seen all cash registers open with a line. Of course, I connected the brisk business to the stock market's performance <gg> Shoulda driven across the street and checked out the crowd at the state beverage control board store---sales of the hard stuff probably increase by 20 percent with each 200-point drop in the Dow.

William, spending slowing on middle class luxuries, IMO . . .heard from a banker today that he is offering the best loan rates in years and he has no takers. The only loans being signed are 2nd mortgages on homes to cover debt. This is in middle America. He says, "people are holding on to their money with both hands until they see where the economy is headed."
