BTW, there's only one very short stretch on the drive in to town where passing is legal or even remotely safe. So once they're behind me, they're stuck.

Or they will try to pass you anyway if you go slow enough and then maybe cause a head on collision which you may or may not become part of and which may result in several deaths.

If I really think someone is driving at an unsafe rate of speed I will normally try to get out of their way. If it is on a one lane road I'll pull over if there is some place where I can pull over.

I'll simply slow down, slower and slower, until he or she gets the picture, or else we're going slowly enough that if he or she hits me, I won't get hurt.

I used to use that technique, too, for the same reason. I no longer think it holds water.
