So true, but with all the "money-saving" hype from lenders, many people are taking on this unique and insidious form of additional debt when they really should not.

To add: The most important thing of all is what the street's perception is. Unemployment may never reach a height that has a serious effect on the housing market. So the housing values will go mostly sideways. But, I believe the street thinks that it could happen (weak housing market) so until there is proof to the contrary the street will discount the possibility of it happening.
