I feel bad for Bush. Many of the economic dynamics were already set in place before he took office. Now he hasn't been as vocal as I would like to see but I don't blame him for the current situation. Energy was expensive well before he took office, unemployment was on the rise and the markets were well into the bear phase. The fact that now we are seeing the dow join in is more a symptom of the run for safety that took place during the naz fall of 2000. It seems obvious to me that many of the dow companies were run to high valuations while people ran for cover and exited the nasdaq. That in combination with the recent info regarding the differences of GAAP and Pro Forma accounting will likely spell pain in the DOW. Is this GW's fault - I don't think it is but I'll leave it to others to decide.
