Likewise I am glad to see some of the threads picking up a little ... seems like the market correction really got to a lot of people, and quieted things down a little ... > By the way, and this may belong on the DCH thread, what > is your opinion on the status/progress toward small > wearable fuel cells? I have been following DCH also ... and am looking for new power sources all of the time ... but I haven't yet seen anything that is really feasible ... yet. ;-) It seems to be that hydrogen fuel cells are going to be impacted by a few things. First, I believe that they are going to have to get smaller, and lighter weight. It seems to me that in weight and form factor, some of the new polymer lithium-ion batteries are looking better. Second, I am curious what the hydrogen source is going to look like! I can imagine that some day we'll walk into 7-11 and buy a hydrogen recharge ... and they'll even have recycling bins for the empty cylinders. Or maybe they will just have a refill station where a refillable cylinder can be recharged ... I am now playing with some batteries from ElectroFuel (http://www.electrofuel.com/) out of Canada ... these are ~$400-$500 lithium-ion batteries that weigh in at less than 2 lbs. (for the 120Wh) and can provide 12+ hours of operation. I haven't seen anything in the fuel cell area that is competitive ... yet. ;-) > Things seem to be moving along with regard to larger > units and I know the military is keenly interested in > their application to wearable PC's but I haven't heard or > seen anything about size reduction lately. The advantage that I still see in standard batteries, is that the ability to recharge is fairly simple. There are numerous AC power sources, and solar, etc. With Fuel Cell, there is the need to create hydrogen, and then store it under pressure ... something that I am not seeing as a simple solution ... yet. I'll keep throwing "yet" in there since I am completely open to the possibility that someone is going to create a great hydrogen solution ... ;-) Scott C. Lemon
