The link that Frank provided me inferred that the data on 16:1 was for a period of 4500 years. This was during a period of little fundamental change in world affairs. Has anything fundamentally changed in that regard?

Looking at the chart again it appears that something significant has changed. The relational value of the two metals over the past 70 years has no precedence in human history. So, rather than just looking at the norm and expecting things to return there, we might want to take serious note of the plain fact that something did change.

What was it? And, what (if anything) would it take to change it back?
