RE: Brian and Kirk briefly discussed one piece of news that I believe may be one of the more positive indicators we've seen lately: "TSMC, UMC foundry sales both rise in August from July" Message 16313710 Foundry's are growing in SCE sector significance IMO.

I've been trying to track positive news and commented a bit on it here:

National and Fairchild report higher orders: suite101.com
Good News: Foundry Rebound has legs suite101.com

Here is the gist:

"I often wonder if the news media is composed of rank idiots or do they have an agenda such as making President Bush look bad before the 2002 election so they can get a more "liberal" congress? Perhaps it is far less sinister and they just push news that gets people to watch and right now "FEAR SELLS"?"

They report and react on trailing indicators like the employment numbers and ignore leading indicators like semiconductor orders and sales. Good for us, bad for the lemmings. :)
