A serious question....... among today's world leaders, are there any bright spots? Are there any charismatic men or women out there who could at least *help* at this moment? Guidance certainly isn't going to emerge from the current crop of U.S. leaders, as we're weak on leaders at the moment.

I'll take a lot of flack for this answer, but I'd answer Bill Gates.

[Further off-topic rant]

Amen, and allow me to ride my own hobby horse, global warming. Those who don't want to take steps against it argue that the outcome is uncertain. True, but that's the bad news, not the good news.

It's expected that the planet will be much hotter in 2100, with the consensus high estimate now at 10 degrees F. Devastating floods are expected from rising sea levels. Picture: Bangladesh floods and the people want to move to India, both with much bigger populations than now.

But it could be far worse. The weather is a "chaotic system," far from fully understood, and subject to potential catastrophe if pushed too far. It's planetary Russian Roulette.

One thing necessary is for people with a scientific education to get involved in politics. Bug your Senator & House Member - they have to listen to you; organize - Science Power! I doubt that a technological civilization can survive without some power over technology in the hands of people who understand it.

Another necessity is to limit human population, and yes, that means cutting back on immigration. We have to protect ourselves from ourselves, and the first step is to keep us from being "outnumbered." Help stamp out people before they stamp out you! (or something ;-) )
