tc and all,

Don't know if you remember, but I've been having trouble with IE5.5 running on WIN98SE. Finally got the sites (classmates.com and freerealtime.com) to work again by deleting them from the "Hosts" folder.

But, I'm still having a major problem with javascript. If I go to some sites (such as the Dell or Gateway sites to configure a system), everything goes fine until I go to the "more info" click-on at the options. Holding the cursor over it shows: javascript:win+windows.open(xxxxx other specifics for the link), but when I click on it nothing happens and a message appears in the lower left (above the start button) saying "error on page".

I've tried the IE repair tool, but I'm running an old Pentium II 266 with 128megs of ram (I know... it's time for a new computer <VBG>) with ZoneAlarm (I didn't do the upgrade), Navascope, End-it All, FreeMem Pro, and Norton SystemWorks 2000. Also, under Internet Properties (advanced) in Control Panel), under Microsoft VM, "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled" is the only thing checked... using the default settings. BTW, I am using "Gozilla" for downloads because it's fast and has a built-in unzip program.

I hope someone can please help figure out what the problem is. Hopefully, one of the thread's gurus can come up with a solution.

Many thanks for everyone's help in the past. Maybe someone has an answer to this.

Marty

EDIT: Just went to www.classmates.com and noticed that even though the site came up, there was a message above the start button saying "done but with errors on the page"... even though the page looks fine and the site seems to work fine. I've noticed this on a number of sites. Could this be because there's javascript in their code and, therefore, related to the above problem?

tc,

Thanks for the welcome. I made a living for the past fifteen years heading up an instrument design and development group. I'm retired now. Our first system used Concurrent CP/M. We then converted to Windows 3.1, later to Win/NT 3.51, then Win/NT 4.0, and now to Win 2000, All those years though I used my Macs for all software analysis and design documentation, all project management, and all customer documentation as well as most other admin tasks. Also, since the Macs have superior serial communications drivers (and RS-422 signalling), we had a 12 year old MAC SE that could continuously and concurrently monitor and log both the transmit and receive high speed RS-422 serial communications channels between our host (NT) and remote instrument (DOS). It was a life saver from time to time.

We had a running joke at work -- it almost always takes two guys with Masters degrees in CS about three days to get a Windows NT system working correctly. :o)
