maroon "investors" gave them millions to spend on inventory b/c they "knew" wine.com was a sure thing. just like alan greenspan "knows" productivity from computers is hidden somewhere so he figures out a formula to arbitrarily double gdp growth (in 1998, 1999 and 2000) and speaks of a "new economy."
