Unisys Uses MigraTEC Toolsets to Speed Migration of RISC Unix Users to Intel-based Machines

MONDAY , SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 08:32 AM

SALT LAKE CITY & DALLAS, Sep 10, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- In follow-up to a successful proof-of-concept project Unisys(R)(NYSE: UIS) has agreed to use the MigraTEC toolset to migrate RISC Unix users to their high performance Intel-based E@action ES7000(R) Enterprise Servers.

Under terms of the agreement, MigraTEC, Inc. (OTC BB: MIGR) will provide migration automation toolsets and services to accelerate and lower the cost of software migrations from non-Unisys platforms, such as SUN Microsystems' Solaris, and other Unix platforms to Unisys Intel(R)-based Windows(TM), UnixWare, and Open UNIX 8 operating environments, including both the Intel(R) Pentium(TM) and Itanium(TM) processor families.

As a global leader in IT customer service, Unisys recognized the intrinsic obstacles for users migrating their current business applications to new computing environments. In response, Unisys proactively addressed customers' rapid response requirements with MigraTEC's proprietary technologies at its core. MigraTEC is a leading provider of automated solutions for software migration to Intel(R)-based machines, including platforms based on the recently announced 64-bit Intel(R) Itanium(TM) chip.

"As we migrated multiple applications, we were able to achieve productivity increases of ten to fifteen times over manual methods," said Paul Cross, manager, Enterprise Migration Engineering for Unisys. "The proof-of-concept convinced us these products are extremely valuable to our users. This makes the migration path clear and manageable. By using the MigraTEC technologies, our customers will be able to gain strategic advantages such as migration cycle time reduction while reducing costs--a much sought-after but seldom found combination in today's fiercely competitive environment."

"We're pleased that Unisys has also seen the tremendous advantages our software migration technologies provide," said Curtis Overstreet, CEO of Migratec. "This provides multiple opportunities for MigraTEC to work with a global leader in ways that directly benefit Unisys' end users while opening new markets and generating revenue for us."
