Bill Safire NYTimes today. "Jimmy that Lockbox" Calls for cap gains cut, another rebate check for christmas, spending on military, education and prescription drug plan.

Mike's take:
By the way there is no deficit. Never before has SS been figured into the budget. We still by historical standards have a huge surplus. Did I go to college for nothing. Does no one else remember Keynes. Stupid, stupid. Bill Safire makes much sense this morning. Speed is of the essence as we will wind out in the markets today. And although i have been attacking bush, after watching the sleazy daschle this weekend, I must question the patriotism of democrats who for political gain will make this President squirm while knowingly allowing the economy to go into the toilet. mike

Bill, I think that it is still time to go back to the proposal I made earlier this year, don't change the tax structure at all, but every year, according to the projected surplus, divide it equally between all tax payers (see #reply-15073089 and #reply-15452703). Bush accepted "part" of that proposal with the $300 per payer this year, why not go all the way?
