The Windows XP UPS tab provides improved basic support for most manufacturers' serial UPSs, including unattended operating system shutdown in the event of an extended power outage as well as power warnings and event logging. Additionally, Microsoft has included a more advanced driver in the operating system, providing enhanced management for APC UPSs. This special driver ensures that APC's serial Back-UPS®, Back-UPS Pro® and Smart-UPS® products work out-of-the-box with Windows XP, without any software installation necessary. The driver gives users convenient access to sophisticated functionality such as battery health, capacity and runtime data. ``In addition to the brand new look and significant new features, Microsoft has endeavored to make this new operating system rock-solid, and we're excited APC was handpicked to play such a significant role in the development of Windows XP UPS management support,'' said Rob Johnson, general manager of APC's availability enhancements group. ``This collaboration continues APC and Microsoft's long-term business relationship which includes joint development of the original UPS control panel in Windows 2000.''
